Another first line for a novel
I never believed my third best friend, Harley Winik, a kid who used to color his tongue in class with his cartridge pen, (jet black was his favorite flavor), when he told me that he scored a goal against Gump Worsley in a road hockey game, or that his pet budgie, Budgie, a bird that lived cageless in the Winik home, could poop on demand on the head of any visitor, or that Harley's mother, Mrs. Winik, the most beloved teacher in our school, Luria Academy, gave him necking lessons, I never believed a word he said. I only believed what I saw and that was enough.
