Going Public
Social media has turned us all into public figures. That means we have to watch what we publish. You never know who's checking it out. True, it cuts into spontaneity and leaves a film of diplomatic / corporate-speak on content, but it also forces the publisher to become more professional. Stream-of-consciousness postings are refined into more sophisticated communications, the writer looks for a more clever way for expression. Still, this approach may not be for everyone, some high-profilers (like Kevin Smith), can get away with anything and indeed are expected to deliver unfiltered content. But remember they are few in number and backed by stellar track records of success. There are still some regular folk however, who feel compelled to let it all hang out online. One way for them to do it without jeopardizing their professional lives is to create a persona without disclosing any personal information. And when you are just a voice you can say anything.
