First visited G in LA some 20 years ago when he was living in a match-box bungalow with no A/C and three kids running around the house shvitzing and naked. While I was having coffee with his wife, G comes home after a hard day's work and announces shamelessly that he just finished doing the math on his Chapter 11. "Honey, we've just lost $534,000...but the good news is that I found an amazing deal on a chauffeur and a used limousine."
I thought the man insane. Fast forward twenty years later, a few more kids, a few more business ventures - some good, some bad - and G puts his dream house on the market for $39 million. Rents it instead to a foreign consulate for an exorbitant amount with an option to buy. Proof that anything is possible in America.
